Procedures and Conditions for Inclusion on the Proxy Researcher List
Any independent researcher who performs work at the Briscoe Center for American History at The University of Texas at Austin (Briscoe Center) may complete the Proxy Researcher List Application.
Completion of the application authorizes the Briscoe Center to include the applicant in the list of Proxy Researchers on its website.
The Briscoe Center does not require a fee for inclusion on the list. However, all required fields noted on the application form must be completed for inclusion on the list. The Briscoe Center reserves the right to edit each application in the interest of brevity and consistency.
The list is compiled and disseminated as a service to the public. The list will be available on the Briscoe Center website.
Proxy researchers must submit any changes to their listed information with a new Proxy Research Application, checking the box which indicates the information is an update to an existing listing. Updates will be made when new information is submitted.
All proxy researchers who wish to remain on the list are required to certify annually that the information they submitted for publication is current and accurate. The center will send an email annually requesting any updates. Replies to these email notices must be received within 30 days. Those proxy researchers who do not reply will be removed from the listing without further notification.
All proxy researchers using Briscoe Center facilities and archives are expected to comply with established
visitor guidelines and reading room policies and procedures
. Those found to be in violation of such procedures will be removed from the list. Severe or repeated violations may also result in suspension of reading room privileges.
Soliciting, vending, and debt collection are prohibited on university property.
Any comments or complaints the Briscoe Center may receive regarding any individual proxy researcher on the list will be forwarded to that researcher for resolution. However, complaints received on a regular basis regarding the business practices of any proxy researcher can result in removal from the list.
The Briscoe Center is not responsible for any research and/or reproduction arrangements made between the proxy researcher and their client.
Inclusion on the list may not be viewed or advertised as an endorsement by the Briscoe Center for American History or The University of Texas at Austin.
The Proxy Researcher List is not considered part of any contractual agreement.
