The First-Generation Living Learning Community provides a sense of belonging for new Longhorns who identify as first-generation (first-gen) college students by creating an engaging living environment for new Longhorns. This community is designed to build a support system among first-gen students with the guidance of peer leaders, staff and faculty. We also join in celebrating each student’s experiences and successes.
Learning Outcomes
Students in the First-Generation LLC will be able to:
- Rely on their newly built first-gen peer support system.
- Understand and implement best practices and strategies for academic success.
- Feel a greater sense of belonging on UT’s campus.
- Have a better understanding of themselves and others.
Location and Room Types
The First-Generation LLC is located in Jester West. Students will be assigned to double rooms with a community bathroom and will be paired with another member of the LLC as their roommate. You may request a specific roommate only if that person has also applied to the LLC. Please note that once room assignments are finalized, room changes within the LLC will not be possible. If you require accommodations due to a disability, please first apply through the Disability & Access (D&A) office and inform us of your request. Requirements
The First-Generation Living Learning Community is a home for students who identify as a first-generation college student, meaning that neither of the student’s parent or guardians have had the opportunity to gain a four-year degree or higher from a college or university. All first-generation students, regardless of cultural heritage, race, identity, sex, or major, are invited to apply.
Decision Timeline
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, with a final deadline of May 16. If accepted, you must confirm your participation in the LLC by May 21. If a confirmation email is not submitted by this date, your spot will be relinquished.
